The Garage was a DIY exhibition space built and run in Holland, Michigan. What started as a personal experiment—to see an idea through from start to finish—quickly evolved into something more, thanks to unexpected support and a lucky grant. Over two summers, The Garage became a gathering place for a small but committed community of artists, collaborators, and friends. Scrappy and ad-hoc by design, the space was built from recycled materials and collective energy, and while it was never meant to last forever, it taught us a lot about organizing, curating, and the power of showing up.
